About a year ago I was watching The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He had this segment where the audience trys to guess wether an item sold or didnt get sold on ebay. There were a bunch of rediculous things on there, one of the items was a potato chip that resembled someone(I can’t remember who). Well the potato chip was sold and for a good amount of money too.
The next day I was eating a bag of hot cheeto and saw one that looked like a pair of legs. I started thinking. Hmm… I could sell this on ebay. First I had to think of a good listing title. After browsing the web for a while I saw a picture of Michael Jackson doing the moonwalk. So there it was, “Michael Jackson doing the moonwalk hot cheeto”.
I listed the cheeto on eBay under the weird category. It was a 7 day auction there were a couple watchers but in the end no one bid on it. After that failed attempt to cash in I put the cheeto away in a hard case.
On June 17, 2009 I saw the cheeto sitting on my shelf and decided to put it back up on eBay. Michael Jackson moonwalk cheeto here we go. I took a picture of it and made a draft of the auction, but decided not to list it till the next day. Thats what I did. The auction was set to end around 9-10 the next week.
A few days past and again like the previous attempt to sell; I had no bids and had 2 watchers. I didn’t think it was going to sell even though the starting bid was only $0.99. The shipping was $2.00 though. A few more days past and still no action.
June 25, Michael Jackson dies.
I’m not a die hard fan of his but I do enjoy his music. I bought my first Michael Jackson CD in 2004 or 2005. It was his Number Ones album. I was jamming to it on my walkman for a while. Then I lost the cd.
MJ is pretty darn cool…
When Michael died I totally forgot about my eBay auction. Later that night I got a E-mail saying an item I was selling is ending. I checked my account and was surprised when I saw the auction. I had like 500 watchers and the bidding was up to $10. Now thats crazy. For a cheeto? Even I couldn’t beleive it. It was Michael Jackson though. The highest bid ended up being around $35.
I just think its weird that the cheeto ended the same day Michael Jackson died. I mean come on what are the odds of that. The Moonwalking cheeto has been sitting on my shelf for over a year and I just happened to list it and have it end on the same day he died. I just think thats really weird, like really really weird. This thing is awesome. This is the only thing like this in the whole world. I just feel like its always going to be connected to the day Michael died. It’s the ultimate Michael Jackson Memorbilia.
Heres the cool part. A week after the auction ended I saw a video on Marketwatch.com about my Michael Jackson moonwalk auction.
I thought that was the coolest thing in the world. After that I googled “Michael Jackson hot cheeto”. A few things came up. I clicked on one and started reading peoples comments about my cheeto. One of the comments mentioned my auction being on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show. I imediately went to youtube and searched for it. The only thing I could find was Jimmy’d monologue about Michael Jackson the day he died. So I started watching it and a few minutes into the monologue he showed my auction. I couldn’t beleive it. I was all smiles after that and I couldn’t wait to tell everyone. That was as good as me being on his show myself. Is that cool or what? Man, I’m still going crazy about it.
